Modular displays have rapidly gained in popularity over the last five years due to the availability of semi standardized “kit based” offerings, ease of setup and teardown, excellent portability, innovative new designs, and ability to utilize flat shipping cases.
Modular displays have always been valued for their refined and evolved look combined with their portability and ease of setup. A well designed Modular booth can easily provide the impact of a custom booth which costs 2-3 times more to purchase and 10-20 times more to ship, setups, tear down, pack, and ship back.
One key advantage of Modular displays which is often overlooked is their infinite flexibility. Because these booths use standard, off-the-shelf components (called “extrusions” in the industry), a single 10 foot inline booth can easily be scaled down to an 8 foot booth or scaled up to a 20 foot inline, 20×20 island booth, or larger. Instead of starting from scratch you can simply add on to your existing booth utilizing the same framework. And a larger 20 foot booth can just as easily be separated into two 10 foot booths to accommodate different needs at different shows or events.
Installation and Dismantling (known as I&D) and shipping are important considerations that are often overlooked in the purchase decision process. These expenses can be shockingly large for custom trade show displays. Modular Displays are unique in their ability to provide the look of a custom booth with much-much lower shipping and I&D costs. Whereas a 10 foot custom trade show exhibit may take 2 skilled workers 8 hours each (i.e. 16 billable hours) to setup a custom booth (belive me – I’ve paid the bills) and another 6 hours each to dismantle and pack. A well designed 10 foot Modular displays would typically take less than 1 hour total time to setup and another 1 hour to pack! So that’s 2 hour vs. 28 hours. And at a typical $80/hour union labor rate (assuming straight time) you’d save 26*$70=$2080 just in labor costs at each show!
And while custom displays ship in heavy wood crates that require a forklift to move around, Modular trade show displays typically ship in wheeled polycarbonate flat pack shipping cases that are much cheaper to ship, can be moved by a single person, and are easier to store.
Graphics are a key part of any trade show display and Modular displays are standout performers due to their flexibility in allowing you to use either fabric graphics or lexan graphic panels. For a high end look, many Modular displays also include frosted plexiglass side panels and/or header panels as well as “standoffs” which are panels mounted to the framework with mounting hardware that allow them to literally “stand off” from the framework to provide a 3D effect.
By incorporating large, seamless, fabric panels in your Modular displays, you give yourself a very large area for branding and messaging. Fabric graphic panels provide a more refined look to your display and are also extremely lightweight and inherently “dent resistant” .
Another key consideration in selecting a trade show display is whether you need shelving or pegboard for product display. In addition you may want to incorporate 1 or more LCD monitors into your exhibit for corporate or product messaging. Modular displays, like truss displays, provide a wide array of shelving, pegboard, and monitor mount capabilities. The framework itself is designed to easily accept these accessories and just as importantly has the weight bearing capability to support LCDs and shelving with for products.
